Spring 2008 Artist Lecture Series

Highland Park Arts Commission

The Arts Commission of Highland Park is pleased to announce the
inauguration of its Spring Artist Lecture Series during the Month of May, 2008.

This series will be comprised of three lectures by a group of
distinguished art professionals. The lectures will take place on three
consecutive Thursday evenings starting May 1st. They will all be free
and open to the public with a question and answer period and reception
at the end of each presentation.

May 1st, in Borough Hall from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Ilana Shafir, an Israeli mosaic artist, will reflect on her career of
more than six decades. As a Holocaust survivor, Shafir will share her
life story, talk about the experiences that influenced her artwork, and
reflect on how her artwork helped her overcome the challenges in her
life. A documentary about Shafir's life and art, filmed in Croatia and
Israel, will be shown as well.

On May 8th, at the Highland Park Library from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Alfredo Franco, Curator of Education at the Zimmerli Art Museum of
Rutgers University, will present an illustrated overview of the
Zimmerli's diverse collections, including Russian, Soviet, French and
American Art. Franco will also discuss the Zimmerli's history and its
wide array of public programs.

And on May 15th, at the Highland Park Library from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Long time Highland Parker, Eric Krebs, will speak about the founding of
the George Street Playhouse and his 40 year career as theatrical
producer and professor of theater production.

The Highland Park Arts Commission is excited to present this Spring
Lecture Series as a new yearly event in addition to our annual Open
Studios event in the Fall. We are busy planning other long-term
community based projects, which all focus on improving the artistic
quality of life for Highland Park and its residents.
